You were never meant to just fit in.
You were always meant to show up as your queer, quirky, brilliant self.
This world we live in doesn’t always make it easy to show up as our queer, quirky, brilliantly unique selves.
Being told to tone it down so often, we learn pretty quickly that being our natural selves is too much. It makes people feel uncomfortable.
So, we edit ourselves, censor our words, dilute our energy and hold ourselves back… we dim our lights so that others feel comfortable.
And the world rewards us for doing this, for blending in rather than standing out.
But, after a while, all that effort becomes too much.
The cost of masking, the exhaustion of continually playing the roles that others want us to play, it strips us of our energy and our identity.
Before long, that quiet ache of yearning for life to be different becomes deafening.
All that energy we used to have to shrink and shape-shift for others… it suddenly vanishes.
Exhausted by it all, all that’s left is a deep desire for simplicity and ease, a yearning to find a way to show up as you, for you.
I know the exhaustion of that deep desire.
For a long time, I kept ignoring what I really wanted. I told myself it was too late, too risky, too much.
But eventually, I got tired of pretending. I had no energy for that anymore.
I finally started listening to my truth, started honouring my needs and everything changed. Now, life feels fuller, wilder, and beautifully real in ways I couldn’t have imagined.
That’s what I want for others too, especially for people who’ve spent a lifetime caring for others, trying to fit in when they were born to stand out.

For more than two decades, I’ve worked at the intersection of human behaviour, leadership, and organisational change, helping people and systems evolve from the inside out.
